Ronald E. Sims, 212th 65-66

Ronald “Ronnie” Edward Sims passed away peacefully on October 5, 2020 – one day after his 73rd birthday. Born in Greenville, he was the son of Marshall Edward and Dorothy White Sims.

Ronnie’s kindness and charm will always be remembered and missed. He deeply loved his family, his country, and the Lord. He was a military police officer during the Vietnam War and a business owner who poured himself into his work. But above all, he was a devoted husband and brother, and a truly amazing father. Just like he dealt with all experiences in life, Ronnie managed his illness with strength and grace.

Ronnie was an avid fisherman in his day with trophies abound to show his sportsmanship. Later in life, he channeled that energy into hunting, golfing and his church (Rock Springs Baptist Church). His infectious smile and caring nature ensured he never met a stranger.

He is predeceased by his parents and his sister, Faye Elrod.

Surviving are his wife, Patricia; his daughter Taryn Sims-Kempson (Hal) of Charlotte, N.C.; his son Kevin Parker (Valentina) of Shelby Township, M.I.; four grandchildren Emilia Parker, Parker Kempson, Milo Parker, and Blan Kempson; two sisters Brenda Elliott of Fairplay and Cheryl Justice (Mel) of Townville. Also surviving are many very special nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held at Mackey Funeral Home at Woodlawn Memorial Park, 1 Pine Knoll Dr. on Thursday, Oct. 8 starting at 10:00AM- 10:45AM. A graveside service will follow at 11:00AM. in Woodlawn Memorial Park.
