William Philip “Bill” Mogridge III

1939 – 2016 Obituary Condolences

William “Bill” Philip Mogridge III, 77, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2016, while at home, after a long battle with aplastic anemia. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to HEB/Texas Health – Student Nursing Program. Bill was born on Aug. 3, 1939, in Memphis, Tenn., where, as a child, he developed his love of dogs and horses. He later went on to graduate from Christian Brothers University in Memphis, Tenn., where he obtained a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1964. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, utilizing his expertise in training and handling dogs. When he returned stateside, he served as an M.P. until his discharge. Bill’s career in the aggregate industry began with Texas Industries (TXI) in Memphis, Tenn. He then was transferred to Texas with TXI and subsequently continued his career with Vulcan Materials in San Antonio, Beal Concrete (now U.S. Concrete) in Fort Worth and Ashgrove Resources of Topeka, Kan. for which he worked for in Keller until his illness no longer allowed him to do so. Bill’s expertise in the aggregate industry was well respected by his peers. Much of Bill’s free time was spent breeding, raising and showing his dogs. Breeds included Beagles, Shelties, German Shepherds, Dobermans, Min-Pins and, most recently, English Bulldogs. He was preceded in death by his father, William P. Mogridge Jr.; mother, Floretta James Mogridge of Memphis, Tenn.; and son, Russell Andrew Mogridge of Fayetteville, Tenn. Survivors: He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Robin Gentry Mogridge of Keller; brother, Alan Mogridge and wife, Sharon, of Cordova, Tenn.; son, Richard Alan Mogridge and wife, Barbara, of Houston; grandsons, Mitchell Alan and Maddox Adan; daughter, Andrea Lynn Lew of San Antonio; grandson, Christopher Bernard Lamoureux; granddaughters, Lauren Cai and Camryn Grace Lew; stepson, Ted Williford and wife, Sherri, of Kyle, Texas; grandson, Brandon Williford and wife, Samantha, of San Marcos; great-granddaughter, Mackenzie; grandsons, Joshua, Daniel and Jordan Williford of Kyle, Texas; and stepson, Lon Williford and wife, Jennifer, of Granbury. We would like to acknowledge and give a special thanks to those involved in his care: Dr. James D. Mackey; the Oncology Unit of HEB/Texas Health Hospital; Ann Wainwright, RN, and Robin Petersen, RN, of the Infusion Center, for the many hours and days spent there, the love and laughter made us feel secure; Encompass Hospice for the end-of-life support; and for our special neighbor, Jonathan Smith, for always being there when we needed him.
