Leighton “Lee” Carlberg, 212th 70/71


Leighton “Lee” E. Carlberg of Hampshire Leighton “Lee” E. Carlberg, 65, passed away Sunday, June 23, 2013. Lee was born November 7, 1947, in Minneapolis, MN, son of Adar and Lorraine (Redburn) Carlberg. After graduating from St. Cloud University, Lee served in the U.S. Army as an Army dog handler in Vietnam. He worked in the glove industry working for Wells Lamont, Niles, IL and Saranac in Green Bay, WI. Lee was an avid reader and enjoyed playing golf in his earlier years. Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Barbara; daughters, Laurie (Dan) Fitzsimmons and Michelle Koller; grandchildren, Trevor, Ryan, Koral and Sierra; sister, Char (Tom) Nevin; brothers-in-law, Todd (Bonnie) and Bruce (Lois Herwig) Ascher. Predeceased by parents and mother-in-law, Joyce Ascher. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 29, 2013, in the Chapel of Cremation Society of Illinois, 6825 Weaver Road, Rockford, IL with visitation from 10:30 a.m. until time of service. Pastor Robert Theroux will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Cancer Center at Kishwaukee Community Hospital, 10 Heath Services Drive, P. O. Box 1190, DeKalb, IL 60115.
