BG Caleb “Jack” Archer, age 87, of Oak Ridge, passed away May 22, 2021.

He proudly served our country with the U.S. Army, receiving the rank Brigadier General and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. Jack was raised in Lindsay, Okla. He obtained a Bachelor’s degree and later a Master’s from Oklahoma University. He was a distinguished military graduate from the ROTC there and a commissioned officer in the U.S. Army. He served for three years proceeding through the ranks to Brigadier General. He fought for our country during the Vietnam Conflict and his other assignments included tours in Europe, the Pentagon, and numerous posts throughout the United States.  His last assignment was as Commander and Chief of Army Military Police throughout the entire U.S. Army. He was awarded the Bronze Star, Army Distinguished Service Medal, and the Legion of Merit. After retirement from the Army, he moved with his family to Oak Ridge and worked at Y-12 for five years. In his later years, he enjoyed helping his beloved wife, Jackie, as she fought many serious health issues. For 15 years he worked tirelessly with SARG (Shelter Animal Rescue Group) of Oak Ridge, serving as president. Jack also enjoyed being a member of Volunteer State Veterans Honor Guard, performing honors for those who had served the country also. 

He was preceded in death by wife of 57 years, Jackie Shaul Archer, parents, Benjamin Harrison and Ada Lee Archer, and sisters, Geary Faye Sanford, Frances Maye White, and Georgia Raye Archer.

Survivors include daughters, Jill Archer Smith and husband Rem, and Jamie Archer and partner Ben, son, Jack Archer and partner Pam, granddaughter, Kelsey Smith, and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

In lieu of flowers, Jack requested memorial donations be made to SARG, 124 Newell Lane, Oak Ridge, TN 37830. The family will receive friends 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 1, 2021, at Weatherford Mortuary. A funeral service will follow at 7 p.m. with Granddaughter Kelsey Smith delivering the eulogy. Family and friends will meet at 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 2, 2021, at East Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery, Lyons View Pike for interment and full military honors. I was honored to command the 212th from May-Nov 67. I had a chance to get to know Jack and he was so proud of having served withthe 2 12Th (as I was).

While Jack advanced to the rank of General, his greatest tour of duty was with the 212th.
